Mommybites - Support, Resources, Education and Connection for Moms
Groupon.com is a website that offers a variety of categories (i.e., food, classes, gadgets, toys, getaways etc.) with discounts. The site is searchable by geographic area, and further by category of interest. In addition, Groupon offers a wide range of free coupons at a huge number of stores. To be sure, you can score some good deals!
I have made two purchases in the past six months. My first purchase was a bundle of highly discounted activity classes for my son at a nearby kids gym. In addition to the great deal offered via Groupon, I combined it with a 20% promotional coupon. I had no trouble utilizing the Groupon coupon (easy to print off the receipt of the transaction, or keep handy on your mobile device).
My second Groupon purchase was a few weeks ago, when I bought some handy plastic trays/dishes for my son. The deal was pretty good (I would estimate around 30% reduced), although not nearly as much as a savings as the activity classes I purchased. I would rate both purchases very well; no surprises, I got what I paid for and was expecting.
There is another part of groupon that utilizes free coupons. At any given time, the site features a number of readily available free coupons for online shopping experiences at a variety of retailers (hotels, stores, etc). The coupon feature is easy to navigate, and the online coupon is easy to find. The coupon section is divided into several categories (i.e., featured coupons, stores, etc.). There’s even a “blog” section that discusses a variety of money-saving tips. Definitely a Groupon feature worth checking out!
A few tips about navigating Groupon:
1) Read the fine print. At least with classes/experiences/activities, you will be up against potential expiration dates and limitations on when you can use your Groupon.
2) Supply & demand. Good deals tend to sell out fast; so while you don’t want buyer’s remorse, keep in mind that certain times there may be a limited inventory of goods/deals.
3) Due diligence. While I have routinely seen good deals on Groupon, you may want to double-check other sites to make sure you’re in fact getting the best deal possible.
4) Free coupons. Always make sure to check-out the free coupon sections — you never know what awaits!
Happy Groupon-ing!
