Mommybites - Support, Resources, Education and Connection for Moms
I recently downloaded a free application called CARDAMOM. The idea behind the app is to bring together “mom” friends in the same city/neighborhood, as well as to help moms make play date connections for their children, and even help establish professional connections/networking.
To begin, the app guides you through a simple, customizable series of questions by which you establish your “cardamom” identity. Although certain personal information is required (i.e., photo profile picture, address, etc.), you can keep your profile as specific or as general as is your preference. Examples of the types of information you can provide are: job occupation, schedule (when your kids are free for play dates, when you are available for a mom meet-up), number and ages of children, etc.
The app has some type of algorithm by which it pairs like-minded mommas, and allows you to “wave” hello to them, have a chat session, and will even let you know if you and she are on the same schedule for a mom meet-up or a play date for the kids.
For instance, if you want to “meet” a fellow mom, you have the option of sending them a “card” by saying hello to them, or saving their profile. You can also read a short blurb about the mom, or choose to toggle to a blurb about her kids (depending on the information she provided).
Conveniently, the app gives you a map view of all active users in your neighborhood, which is a really handy way of locating people. In order to chat with new friends, it seems that you have to mutually wave first. There’s also a “notifications” area where you can see if anyone waved at you, and you can choose whether to wave back! (Someone already waved to me as we speak!)
I think this app has a ton of potential to connect moms and help establish new friendships between adults and kids. I look forward to waving hello to some fellow users in my area and setting up a play date or two!
